Innovative Practices in the Era of Covid-19 Pandemic for Sustainable Development and Planning of Public Universities in Rivers State

Abstract

This study examined innovative practices in the era of covid-19 pandemic for sustainable development and planning of public universities in Rivers State. The study adopted the descriptive research design. Three (3) research questions and three (3) hypotheses guided this study. Mean and standard deviation statistics were used to answer the research questions while the z-test statistics were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. A sample size of 162 management staff comprising 108 males and 54 females was drawn from all the public universities in Rivers State using the purposive sampling technique. A researcher-designed instrument titled ‘Innovative Practices for Sustainable Development and Planning of Public Universities Questionnaire (IPSDPPUQ)’ was used for data collection. The reliability index determined for the instrument using the Cronbach Alpha Coefficient was 0.82. The findings of the study revealed that there is no significant difference between the various innovative practices adopted, strategies adopted in selecting innovative practices and the challenges encountered in adopting innovative practices in the era of covid-19 pandemic for sustainable development and planning of public universities in Rivers state. The researcher recommended amongst others that university management, in adopting innovative practices, should ensure to involve all staff and students alike.
