Business Educators’ Digital Skills and Utilization of Accounting Software in Pedagogy in Rivers State Universities.

Abstract

The study investigated the relationship between Business Educators’ digital skills and Utilization of Accounting software in pedagogy in Rivers State universities. Four specific objectives were translated into four research questions and four hypotheses to guide the study. Correlation research design was used in this study. Population of the study was made up of 40 Business Educators who are lecturers in Business Education Department in the two Universities offering the programme. A sample of 12 Business Education lecturers handling accounting courses in two of the State Universities (Rivers State University and Ignatius Ajuru University of Education) offering the programme were selected using purposive sampling technique and was used for the study. Two structured questionnaires were validated and used to collect data needed for the study. Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient of 0.71 was obtained for the two clusters of the instrument. Data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) to answer the research questions and test the hypotheses posed at 0.05 level of significance. The results revealed that there is a very weak positive relationship between internet navigation skills and accounting software utilization in pedagogy in Rivers State universities, the result also revealed that there is a moderate positive relationship between computer software skills and accounting software utilization in pedagogy in Rivers State Universities amongst others. Based on these findings, it was recommended among others that Business Education administrators in Rivers State should provide the enabling environment that allows Educators to apply their digital skills in the utilization of accounting software to teach and prepare students for the 21st-century electronic accounting transactions.
