Influence of Political Integration on Access to Education in Rivers State-Owned Universities in a Changing World

Abstract

The study investigated the influence of political integration on access to education in public universities in Rivers State. The study adopted the descriptive survey design for the study. Three purposes, three research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. The population of the study was 1,405 educational management students in Rivers State-owned universities. Using the simple random sampling technique, a sample size of 104 students was drawn. A twelve-item questionnaire titled, Influence of Political Integration on Access to Education Questionnaire (IPIAEQ) was drafted to elicit data from the respondents. The face and content validity of the instrument was determined by experts in Educational Management as well as Measurement and evaluation while the internal consistency of the instrument was established through the use of Cronbach Alpha with a reliability coefficient of 0.82, 0.80, and 0.76 respectively was achieved and justified for the study. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Findings from the study revealed that political integration to a large extent, influences access to education. On this premise, it was recommended that all the hindrances to access education that are associated with political integration should be addressed and taken care of to avert further hindrances to education.
